Past few years, I have developed an interest in organic gardening of vegetables as well as fruits. I had reserved some space in the backyard especially for planting vegetables. When you choose to work closely with the vegetables and fruits, you should collect ample information regarding sunlight/shade needed, plant food, watering cycle, and other care instructions.
Benefits of gardening:
- You stay healthy by consuming fresh vegetables and fruits. When you harvest the fruits and vegetables right from your garden, it's nutrient content is high. Since you are growing the fruits and vegetables yourself, you would definitely use less chemicals or focus on the usage of organical chemicals.
- You can accumulate the peels and wastage of fruits and vegetables to create your own compost thereby reducing the expenditure on fertilizer.
- They are readily available at your doorsteps so they are fresh.
- Fruits and vegetables that are allowed to ripen on the plants tend to have more nutrients than the ones from the grocery store that are harvested before they even ripen.
- You tend to reduce your monthly grocery bills, and you grow organic vegetables at half the cost of that are available in the stores.
- I encourage each of my daughters to plant and care at least one fruit and one vegetable so that they develop an interest in eating that vegetable and fruit.
- Moreover, gardening gives you self satisfaction. There is no joy of planting a seed and watch it grow into a full plant loaded with fruits and vegetables.
- Last, not least it brought a lot of positive changes in me making me a better person.
This year I grew vegetables like carrots, beetroots, kale, okra, french beans, lettuce, eggplant, bell peppers, parsley, lemongrass, tomatoes, cucumber, bitter gourd, sponge gourd, bottle gourd, ridge gourd, chilies, zucchini along with fruits like watermelon, honeydew, strawberries. Though the summer season is short-lived, I am quite satisfied with the yield I had this year. So if you plan to choose gardening you will start seeing a positive difference in yourself as well.
